Texas Tax Deeds

Tax Lien Certificates – Texas

Texas tax deed sales are a great investment; however, the state doesn’t hold any tax lien certificate sales. If you’re only interested in states that offer tax lien certificates, please check out our list of tax lien certificate states.

Texas Tax Deed Sales – At a Glance

The interest rate on Texas tax deed sales is 25%, with a minimum redemption period of one year and a maximum of two. The property’s owner is given up to six months to redeem their property after the sale before the buyer or investor has full rights to the title.

As with almost every state, Texas’ tax deed sales are conducted at the county level. All sales are carried out on a competitive bid basis and are usually managed by sheriffs or law firms within each county.

Texas is a favorable state for investors wanting to buy property at tax deed sales. Even if the owner is able to redeem the property, the 25% interest rate must still be paid in full. In other words, you either get to keep the property or at worst receive a 25% return on your money. Pretty good stuff!

The statutes for Texas tax deed auctions are set at the state level, but it’s up to each county to interpret and conduct the auctions. This means that you should always directly contact each county for additional information like auction dates, times, and locations.

Since each county is allowed to interpret state statutes however they see fit, there may be differences from county to county regarding auction procedures, how payments are made, etc. I go over these matters in much greater detail during my Tax Lien Certificate training, so be sure to sign up for it!
